pastels

While there are many different kinds of pastels out there, there is only one that I use and recommend.  PanPastels are incredibly pigmented soft chalk powder pastels and they work marvelously on bisque ceramics.

Once base coated with acrylic paint, pastels can be used to bring out the character and personality in your pieces. Incredible detail and realism can be achieved by using pastels to contour faces and add fine details such as make-up.
